What are GMO FREE (NON GMO) Products?

In short, the term GMO means genetically modified organism. The definition of what it means to be genetically modified is still debated. If a food item has the expression GMO FREE or NON GMO, it is understood that this food item is non-GMO and is labeled as non-GMO.

What are GMO FREE (NON GMO) Products?

This generally means that the genetic structure of the plants and animals used in the product is not changed for certain purposes. GMO FREE (non-GMO) products are products that have not undergone any genetic changes in the production processes.

GMO crops are genetically modified for many reasons. The most notable among these is that plants produce a toxin that kills pests. In this case, the need to use insecticides (pesticides) or pesticides that destroy weeds (herbicides) for the product in the field is eliminated. This is the useful part.

The fact that these chemicals are used very little in the production process is a good situation in terms of preventing the chemicals from being transferred to the plant, not harming the environment, and protecting the health of the farmers. However, concerns about the safety of genetically modified foods are still not completely resolved. No reliable long-term studies explaining this have yet been done. As such, choosing non-GMO foods is the way many consumers prefer.

On the other hand, when foodstuffs are organic, it means that all ingredients used, including livestock, are not exposed to radiation, synthetic substances or pesticides. Animals raised to produce organic meat, dairy products and eggs are not given growth hormones or antibiotics. For this reason, to some extent, GMO FREE products and organic products seem similar to each other.

In a broad sense, a food that qualifies as organic is considered GMO FREE. Because GMO products are not used in the production of organic foods. However, non-GMO does not always mean organic. Because pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, artificial preservatives and colorants are still used in the production of non-GMO foods. That's why bIn order for a food to be GMO FREE, the entire production process goes through rigorous tests and controls.
