What is the NON GMO Certification Process?

Genetically modified organisms are organisms whose DNA has been modified through biotechnology. Foodstuffs containing genetically modified ingredients or produced with GMOs by this method are considered as GMO foods.

What is the NON GMO Certification Process?

In fact, the technologies used in genetic modification have been developed to grow crops that are resistant to insects, bacteria, viruses, or climate and then overcome the challenges of feeding an ever-growing global population. Most of the time, GMO products are used deliberately for food and feed production. However, in some cases, GMO products inadvertently enter the production of non-GMO food and feed.

In this regard, detailed tests are required to evaluate the presence of GMOs in products and production. GMO detection services and certification studies provided in this direction are the main reason why authorized institutions develop NON GMO certification programs.

The first step of the certification process is an application by the manufacturer or supplier companies. With this application, on-site investigations are initiated at the company's facilities and then tests are carried out. These tests are carried out in advanced laboratories with new biotechnological methods and the results are evaluated with the criteria in the legal regulation principles and developed standards.

In this way, the presence and amount of GMOs in the sample are determined. In these tests, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) based test methods are used and strict controls are made. In order for GMO detection to be accurate and reliable, technologies and biotechnology methods for new and developing GMOs are followed by laboratory staff.

After the completion of these test studies, on-site inspections are carried out and certification studies continue.

Biosafety law was published in 2010 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The main purpose of this law is to prevent risks arising from GMO products obtained by using modern biotechnology within the framework of scientific and technological developments, to protect human, animal and plant health, the environment and biological diversity, and to ensure sustainability. This law includes research, development, processing, placing on the market, monitoring, use, It covers the principles of import, export, storage and similar activities.

Our organization acts with a sense of responsibility in order to be with people who consciously care about their health and to help them choose the foodstuffs they will need, and tries to support manufacturers to prove their efforts in this direction.
