In short, the most common GM crops have been developed to meet the needs of farmers, and they have become more accessible and more economical for consumers.

On the other hand, plant scientists continue to develop GMO products that will benefit consumers. For example, GMO soybean is grown to obtain a healthier oil. Likewise, GMO apples that do not darken when cut are grown. GMO papaya has been developed to be resistant to a virus. When the ringspot virus threatened the papaya industry, botanists developed the papaya resistant to this virus. These studies are also useful for preventing food waste.
