Why Should GMO Foods Be Labeled?

One of the most dangerous and least understood human health experiments the world has ever known is currently being conducted without consumer consent and is the wholesale contamination of the world's food supply with genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Why Should GMO Foods Be Labeled?

GMO is the result of a laboratory process in which genes are taken from one species and added to another in order to obtain a desired trait or trait. GMOs are also known as genetically modified, bioengineered, biotech crops or transgenic organisms.

While GMO advocates say their goal is to increase nutritional benefits or productivity, the two main features added to date are herbicide tolerance and the plant's ability to produce its own pesticide. These results have no health benefits, only economic benefits to the companies that produce them, at the expense of significant negative consequences.

Introduced in 1996, genetic engineering of plants and animals is today one of the biggest and most challenging environmental and health problems of the 21st century. With the promise of making more and supposedly "better" food, this new technology has invaded our farmlands, grocery stores and kitchen pantry, fundamentally changing some of our most important staples.

Most of the food on supermarket shelves today is GMO. As of 2011, 94% of US corn was genetically engineered, including 95% of soybeans, 90% of sugar beets, 90% of canola oil, 80% of cotton, and about 88% of Hawaiian papaya.

The Food Manufacturers Association has estimated that between 70% and 75% of traditional processed foods on supermarket shelves contain GMOs. This number is even higher today. Bread, cereal, frozen pizza, soup, soda - everything now contains genetically modified ingredients, including all kinds of processed foods. Another common source of GMO food is dairy products from cows injected with the genetically modified hormone Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH).

Since there are no laws mandating these ingredients to be labeled as GM, consumers are likely consuming GM ingredients unknowingly.

The simple truth is that most people want the right to choose what to eat and what to feed their family. The public deserves an accurate market so that consumers can make informed decisions.

People care about their health more consciously. Our organization acts with a sense of responsibility in order to be with people who have this idea and to help them choose the foodstuffs they will need, and tries to support the manufacturers to prove their efforts in this direction. In this context, NON GMO certification services are offered to manufacturers.
